Asked for: “Build a competitive mono-Fairy team: all six Pokémon must be Fairy-type. Make it genuinely tournament-viable, not a gimmick.”
Mono-Fairy teams have struggled at M-C tournaments so far. This one sets Trick Room behind Follow Me and a Focus Sash, then two Huge Power attackers clear the board.
Team: Mono-Fairy Trick Room ("Glass Slipper")
Constraint: All six Pokémon Fairy-type, tournament-viable, no gimmicks. Regulation: Regulation M-C (Pokémon Champions, VGC 2026) Core idea: Fairy is the type that never takes Dragon damage, and two of its members carry Huge Power. Hatterene sets Trick Room behind Magic Bounce and a Focus Sash, then Mega Mawile and Azumarill hit harder than a Choice Band user would, at 63 Speed.
Game plan
- Win condition: Hatterene (or Whimsicott as the backup) sets Trick Room behind Clefable's Follow Me. Huge Power Mega Mawile and Azumarill then move first and clear the board within the five turns.
- What beats it:
1. Spread Steel damage on the setter. Gholdengo's Make It Rain can't be redirected. With its usual Life Orb it OHKOs Hatterene at 132.9–158.5%, and no Hatterene spread survives it. 2. Fake Out on the Trick Room turn, mainly from Incineroar and Rillaboom. 3. Taunt. 4. Single-target Poison or Steel hits on Hatterene. Sneasler's Dire Claw does 95.1–113.4%, and Kingambit's Iron Head OHKOs 13 of 16 rolls. 5. Fire spread on Mawile. Mega Charizard Y's sun-boosted Heat Wave does 150.3–179.6%. 6. Protect stalling through the five turns.
- What answers those:
1. Focus Sash on Hatterene guarantees Trick Room goes up through any single hit, Make It Rain included. 2. Magic Bounce reflects Taunt. 3. Follow Me soaks single-target Fake Out and focus fire. 4. Mawile's pre-Mega Intimidate and Grimmsnarl's screens cut the physical and special hits. Under Light Screen, Life Orb Make It Rain drops to 89–105.5% on Hatterene, a 31% OHKO chance instead of a guaranteed one. 5. Whimsicott is a second Trick Room setter. 6. Azumarill's Water STAB handles the Fire-types.
- Plan B (screens + Belly Drum): Grimmsnarl sets Reflect and Light Screen (8 turns with Light Clay) while Clefable uses Follow Me. Azumarill uses Belly Drum, eats its Sitrus Berry, and sweeps with +6 Aqua Jet. Aqua Jet is priority, so it doesn't care about Speed or Trick Room. When the opponent brings its own Trick Room, Whimsicott's Tailwind is the fast-mode alternative.
The six
1. Mawile @ Mawilite: Trick Room wincon
- Type: Steel/Fairy | Ability: Intimidate before it Megas, Huge Power after | Item: Mawilite | Mega: Mega Mawile (172 Attack, doubled by Huge Power; 157 HP / 145 Def / 117 SpD)
- Why it's here: It's the damage that ends games under Trick Room. Steel/Fairy makes it immune to Poison, which every other member is weak to. It's also neutral to Steel. It leads with Intimidate to soften the physical hits aimed at Hatterene on turn 1, then Megas.
- Moves:
- Play Rough:
- OHKOs the physical Garchomp at 165.4–194.6%.
- OHKOs Mega Salamence at 136–160.5%.
- 2HKOs Rillaboom (76.8–90.3%) and Incineroar (61.5–72.5%; with Sitrus it's still a 2HKO on 14 of 16 rolls).
- Fire Fang: Every Steel walls Play Rough, and this is the team's physical Fire answer. It OHKOs Gholdengo 6 of 16 rolls (89–106.1%; Good as Gold doesn't change this, since it blocks status moves, not damage). It 2HKOs Kingambit at 58.9–69.6%.
- Sucker Punch: Priority Dark damage that also counts as an answer to Gholdengo.
- Protect.
- Spread: 32 HP / 32 Atk / 2 SpD, Brave. 0 Speed SPs with a −Speed nature leaves it at 63 Speed, as slow as it can go for Trick Room.
- Deviations from the common set:
- Fire Fang over Iron Head (62%). Iron Head only covers Fairy, Rock and Ice. On a team whose biggest problem is Steel-types, Fire Fang is worth more.
- No Rock Slide (43%). Under Trick Room, single-target Huge Power hits out-value a 0.75× spread move.
- Intimidate over Hyper Cutter (52/46 split). Intimidate is the turn-1 protection Hatterene needs. Caveat: it raises Kingambit's Attack by +2 through Defiant (see matchups).
2. Hatterene @ Focus Sash: primary Trick Room setter
- Type: Psychic/Fairy | Ability: Magic Bounce | Item: Focus Sash
- Why it's here: It's the setter the plan can't lose. Magic Bounce reflects Taunt, and Sash makes Trick Room guaranteed against any single hit. At 44 Speed it also moves before the rest of the team under Trick Room.
- Moves:
- Trick Room.
- Dazzling Gleam: 2HKOs Mega Salamence even as a spread move (73.3–87.2%).
- Psychic: The team's only Psychic attack, and therefore its answer to Sneasler. It does 267.5–315.9%, a guaranteed OHKO unless that Sneasler holds a Focus Sash (16% of them do).
- Mystical Fire: 2HKOs Gholdengo at 64.6–76.8%.
- Spread: 32 HP / 2 Def / 32 SpA, Quiet (206 SpA, 44 Speed).
- Deviations from the common set:
- Focus Sash over Life Orb (60%). I solved for it: no amount of bulk lets Hatterene survive Life Orb Make It Rain, and without Sash it also loses to Dire Claw and Iron Head most of the time.
- Psychic over Expanding Force (85%). This team has no Psychic Terrain, and without terrain Expanding Force is an 80-power single-target move against Psychic's 90.
- No Protect (67%). Clefable's Follow Me does that job, and all four of these moves are load-bearing.
3. Clefable @ Leftovers: redirection
- Type: Fairy | Ability: Unaware | Item: Leftovers
- Why it's here: Follow Me (+2 priority) takes the Fake Out and single-target hits off Hatterene on the Trick Room turn. Unaware means opposing stat boosts (Swords Dance, Dragon Dance, Kingambit's Defiant) don't count when they attack it.
- Moves: Follow Me, Moonblast, Helping Hand (stacks on a Mawile or Azumarill hit), Protect.
- Spread: 32 HP / 32 Def / 2 SpD, Relaxed. The −Speed nature keeps it slow for Trick Room. It takes Kingambit's Iron Head at 66.3–80.2%, a 2HKO and never an OHKO. It takes Sneasler's Dire Claw after Intimidate at 44.6–53.5%.
- Note: Leftovers rather than Sitrus because Item Clause: Sitrus Berry belongs to Azumarill.
4. Azumarill @ Sitrus Berry: second breaker and plan B
- Type: Water/Fairy | Ability: Huge Power | Item: Sitrus Berry
- Why it's here: It's the second Huge Power attacker under Trick Room and the entire plan B. It's the team's only Water attacker (Incineroar, Charizard) and only Fighting attacker (Kingambit, Archaludon).
- Moves:
- Belly Drum.
- Aqua Jet: At +6 it OHKOs Incineroar (142–168%) and Mega Charizard Y (264.5–313.5%).
- Play Rough.
- Superpower: OHKOs Kingambit at 141.1–166.2%, but only a 2HKO through Chople Berry (70.5–83.1%; 40% of Kingambit carry it). Against Archaludon it's a 2HKO at 69.7–82.1%. Stamina raises Archaludon's Defense after the first hit and Superpower lowers our Attack, so treat the second hit as needing chip or Helping Hand.
- Spread: 32 HP / 32 Atk / 2 Def, Brave (207 HP, 63 Speed).
- Deviation from the common set: No Protect (60%). Superpower is the only Fighting move this team has, and Clefable's Follow Me covers the Belly Drum turn.
5. Grimmsnarl @ Light Clay: screens and pivot
- Type: Dark/Fairy | Ability: Prankster | Item: Light Clay
- Why it's here: It turns the knockout hits on Hatterene and Mawile into survivable ones and enables plan B. Prankster Parting Shot lowers a target's Attack and Sp. Atk, then pivots safely into Mawile or Hatterene.
- Moves: Light Screen, Reflect, Parting Shot, Spirit Break. This is the standard set, with no flags.
- Spread: 32 HP / 19 Def / 15 SpD, Careful, the most common spread.
- Caveat: Prankster-boosted Parting Shot fails against Dark-types (Incineroar, Kingambit).
6. Whimsicott @ Mental Herb: backup setter, both speed modes
- Type: Grass/Fairy | Ability: Prankster | Item: Mental Herb
- Why it's here: It's a second Trick Room setter for when Hatterene is gone. Prankster Tailwind is the fast mode against opposing Trick Room, and Prankster Encore punishes Protect stalling. It resists Electric, which makes it the switch-in for Mega Raichu Y.
- Moves: Tailwind, Trick Room, Encore, Moonblast.
- Spread: 2 HP / 32 SpA / 32 Spe, Timid (184 Speed), the most common spread.
- Deviations from the common set:
- Trick Room (0% usage). It's the reason this slot exists: one Pokémon that can set either speed mode. Prankster doesn't make Trick Room fast (it still moves last), so the value is redundancy, not speed.
- Mental Herb over Focus Sash. Hatterene holds the Sash. This slot's job is getting its status moves through, and Mental Herb blocks the first Taunt or Encore.
- No Protect. All four status and utility moves are its job.
Synergy map
- Speed control:
- Trick Room ×2 (Hatterene, Whimsicott) and Tailwind (Whimsicott).
- Under our Trick Room the order is Hatterene 44, then Mawile and Azumarill at 63, then Clefable and Grimmsnarl.
- Aqua Jet and Sucker Punch are priority, so they work under any field.
- Against enemy Tailwind, our Trick Room flips it.
- Against enemy Trick Room, either use Whimsicott's Tailwind, or set Trick Room on top of theirs, which cancels it.
- Defensive web:
- Dragon can't touch anyone on the team; all six are immune.
- Mawile is immune to Poison, the type five of the six are weak to.
- Azumarill and Mawile take neutral damage from Steel.
- Whimsicott resists Electric.
- Shared problems are Poison (five weak) and Steel (four weak). That's what Intimidate, the screens and Follow Me are there to cover.
- Offensive coverage: Fairy STAB, plus Fire (Fire Fang, Mystical Fire), Psychic, Water, Fighting and Dark (Sucker Punch). The team has no Ground and no Electric move.
- What protects the plan: Follow Me, Magic Bounce, the Focus Sash, Intimidate on the lead, eight turns of screens, and a backup setter.
Final checklist
- [x] Win condition: Trick Room with two Huge Power attackers.
- [x] What beats it: Spread Steel damage, Fake Out, Taunt, Poison/Steel focus fire, Fire spread, Protect stalling.
- [x] Answers: Focus Sash, Magic Bounce, Follow Me, Intimidate plus screens, a backup setter, Azumarill's Water.
- [x] Plan B: Screens plus Belly Drum Aqua Jet, or Tailwind.
- [x] Speed control, plus answers to enemy Trick Room and Tailwind.
- [x] Redirection to protect the win condition.
- [x] No shared 4× weakness. Whimsicott is 4× weak to Poison on its own, but it moves first with Prankster and is a support.
- [ ] Full offensive coverage: No Ground or Electric. Pelipper, Mega Raichu Y, Overqwil and Mega Pidgeot take no super-effective hits from us. The plan for each is below.
Matchup spread & gameplans
Default lead: Mawile + Hatterene. Intimidate goes off on entry. Hatterene sets Trick Room, and Mawile Megas and attacks the bigger threat or Protects if a Fake Out is coming. Back line: Clefable + Azumarill. Fake Out-heavy lead (Incineroar/Rillaboom): Clefable + Hatterene. Follow Me, then Trick Room.
| Archetype | How it threatens us | Our plan | Difficulty |
|---|---|---|---|
| Rillaboom / Mega Salamence / Sneasler (+Kingambit), the most common structure | Sneasler's Poison hits five of us. Rillaboom's Fake Out lands on the Trick Room turn. Kingambit's Defiant punishes Intimidate. | Lead Clefable + Hatterene, then Follow Me + Trick Room. Psychic OHKOs Sneasler (watch for the 16% that hold Focus Sash). Mawile's Play Rough OHKOs Mega Salamence and 2HKOs Rillaboom. Kingambit: Mawile's Intimidate gives it +2 Attack, so keep Mawile in the back when Kingambit is in their preview. Azumarill's Superpower OHKOs it unless it holds Chople (then 2HKO), and Fire Fang 2HKOs it. Clefable's Unaware ignores the boost. | Medium |
| Incineroar / Rillaboom / Sneasler (+Mega Floette) | Double Fake Out, Intimidate cycling, Sneasler | Clefable + Hatterene lead. Grimmsnarl's Parting Shot fails on Incineroar, so target Rillaboom with it. Azumarill: +6 Aqua Jet OHKOs Incineroar, and it's priority, so Intimidate cycling only costs us a boost stage. Mega Floette is Fairy, so Mawile's Fire Fang and Play Rough are neutral; chip it down under screens. | Medium |
| Gholdengo / Mega Raichu Y / Rillaboom (+Hisuian Arcanine) | Spread Make It Rain overwhelms the setter. Raichu out-speeds anything without Trick Room. | Grimmsnarl + Hatterene lead: Light Screen, then Trick Room on the Sash. Gholdengo: Mystical Fire 2HKOs, Fire Fang OHKOs 6 of 16, and Sucker Punch covers it. Raichu: no super-effective answer. Whimsicott resists Electric, and under Trick Room Raichu moves after everything on our side. Mawile focus-fires it. | Hard |
| Rain (Pelipper / Archaludon / Basculegion) | Doubled Speed from Swift Swim, Archaludon's Steel and Electro Shot | Set Trick Room and the Swift Swim Speed works against them. Archaludon: Superpower 2HKOs (account for Stamina). Pelipper: no super-effective answer, so Play Rough it neutrally or ignore it and hit the attackers. Whimsicott resists the Electric. | Medium |
| Sun (Mega Charizard Y) | Sun Heat Wave OHKOs Mawile and Whimsicott | Keep Mawile in the back until Charizard is gone. Azumarill: +6 Aqua Jet OHKOs it, so Belly Drum behind Follow Me. Hatterene and Clefable take Fire neutrally. | Medium |
| Opposing Trick Room (Indeedee-F / Farigiraf) | Their Trick Room cancels ours. Psychic Terrain blocks Aqua Jet and Sucker Punch against grounded targets. | Lead Whimsicott: Tailwind when their Trick Room is up, Encore on the setter. Hatterene's Psychic is boosted in their terrain because Hatterene is grounded. Rely on non-priority hits until the terrain expires (5 turns, 8 with Terrain Extender). | Medium |
Top threats not covered above:
- Garchomp:
- The physical version: Mawile's Play Rough OHKOs it.
- Mega Garchomp Z: pure Dragon, so it can't touch any of us with its STAB, and Fairy hits it super-effectively.
- Its Earthquake hits Mawile super-effectively, so keep Mawile next to Protect or under Reflect.
- Steel-types (Mega Metagross, Excadrill, Mega Golisopod, Mega Lucario Z, Corviknight): Hatterene's Mystical Fire or Mawile's Fire Fang.
- Venusaur: Hatterene's Psychic or Mystical Fire.
- Mega Dragonite: Mawile's Play Rough. Multiscale holds the first hit to 76.8–91.1%, so it is a guaranteed 2HKO, not an OHKO.
- Glimmora: Hatterene's Psychic or Azumarill's Aqua Jet.
- Mega Gengar: Hatterene's Psychic or Mawile's Sucker Punch.
Known weaknesses
- Mono-type liability on Steel and Poison. Five members are weak to Poison and four to Steel. A board with Sneasler plus a Steel attacker forces Follow Me or Protect every turn. Rotate Mawile in front, since it's immune to Poison and neutral to Steel.
- Gholdengo with Life Orb. It OHKOs Hatterene through any spread, and Follow Me can't redirect Make It Rain. Only the Sash or Light Screen buys the turn. Never let the Sash break to chip damage before Trick Room is up: lead Hatterene, or bring it in after Grimmsnarl's Parting Shot.
- No super-effective answer to Overqwil (Dark/Poison) or Mega Pidgeot. Overqwil hits five of us with Poison. Bring Mawile, which is immune, and chip it under Reflect with neutral Play Rough. Mega Pidgeot's spread Heat Wave threatens Mawile and Whimsicott. Set Trick Room so it moves last, and keep Mawile in the back.
- Fire pressure on the Mega. Mawile is the main breaker and dies to one sun-boosted Heat Wave. Against Mega Charizard Y, plan B (Azumarill) is the main line, not the backup.
- Defiant Kingambit with Intimidate. Don't lead Mawile into a visible Kingambit unless Azumarill or Clefable is ready to absorb or punish the boosted hit.
The game always runs the same way: get Trick Room up through the Sash, Follow Me and screens, then let the Huge Power attackers do the work, with Belly Drum Aqua Jet ready when the Trick Room route is shut.
